The head’s side is also known as the front or obverse. A person could expect to receive these tokens when they enter into an alcohol treatment program. The word “obverse” and “reverse” come from Latin words meaning “backward,” but they’re used to describe the front and back sides of coins as well. Sobriety Tokens are given out to mark a milestone for a person who is on the road to recovery and sobriety. That’s because before you flip a coin to decide, you must know which side. If you’ve been to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, you are probably familiar with the three legacies of AA, namely: recovery, unity, and service. Sobriety coins are tokens given to those in alcohol or drug recovery, who are taking part in the 12 step recovery program, and mark how long a member has been sober. The obverse side of a coin is called heads or tails, and the reverse side is called tails. Other Terms for the Obverse Side and Reverse Side of a Coin Both are parts of coins, but they can be defined differently.
